Day 7
Prompt: An incident from last night
Last night, a balmy evening for late February, my husband and I went to out to dinner. As we we walking up the street toward the restaurant, a car screeched to a stop and the woman driving yelled out the window, “I love your shirt!!” I replied, “Thank you!” She then drove on down the road. I told my husband, “You’ve got to love us women,” and he just smiled.
What is it about compliments from random strangers? Such unexpected kindness often jolts us out of funks. The past few days had been busy and emotional, yet this simple statement about my choice of clothing lifted my mood.
It is something women do for one another. “I like your pink coat.” “Your boots are cute.” “Who cuts your hair? I love the style.” Often we don’t even think about it, we just say these things, not thinking how it may affect the recipient.
My hope is that we all continue to throw out random compliments to strangers, that we share sweet thoughts and gifts of grace. Our crazy world craves these small flashes of joy.
“Being kind means responding to the needs of others - and people can be kind, no matter how old or young we are.” ~Fred Rogers
