Almost everyone I know is struggling. Some are climbing arduous mountain trails. Others are wading through dark swamps. Life is hard. Tragedy brings us to our knees. We pray, console, make casseroles, and sit side by side with grief. Our sloppy and sincere attempts to help make us human. Reaching out to that hand to hold is one of our deepest forms of connection.
So, why do we intentionally find ways to inflict pain on one another? Snarky comments. Online trolling. Rude behavior. Passive aggressive conduct. Rage texting. Jealousy. Needless comparisons. Careless words. All are poisonous arrows, bottomless pits, steel traps that make these lives of ours even more agonizing.
Kindness and empathy are not weaknesses. Don’t believe the propaganda. Our greatest strengths lie in our gentleness, our benevolence, our basic decency.
At this point in my life, with more years behind than in front of me, I want to surround myself with individuals who lead with compassion. I will not settle for the petty, small, or inconsiderate. Life is too short to accept anything less.
I will continue to write these random words of mine, for me, for my heart, and for the few who are comforted by them. It is my love wrapped up in simple prose.

You read my mind! Thanks for putting it I into words!
I look forward to reading your words and always find hope in your wisdom
