My Dear Ones,
I know the world is harsh. It pierces our hearts with a thousand poisoned arrows, leaving open wounds. We keen over losses. The mourning is palpable. It’s in the air, this grief of ours. A thick fog of sorrow creeps in through cracks, dispatching its malevolent darkness. Constant tears create deep furrows.
“There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief, a deep contrition, and of unspeakable love.” ~Washington Irving
My Valentine wish for you, though, is to not surrender to sorrow. The white flag isn’t an option. Search for your light and use it. Know your tears are armor, keeping your compassion alive. Light is hope, that whisper of a wish.
“Love is the voice under all silences, the hope which has no opposite in fear; the strength so strong mere force is feebleness: the truth more first than sun, more last than star.” ~e.e. cummings
How do we love among the ashes? I recommend loudly and with abandon. Say “I love you” every day, especially to yourself. Summon the strength to open your heart to fight with every neuron. Spread it like a kid with an open jar of jelly. Let your sticky fingers cover every surface with imprint of your humanity.
The giving of love is an education in itself. ~ Eleanor Roosevelt
Fear is a mighty entity, yet love is infinite. It’s a longer table, an open door, a friendly wave, a welcome mat. Love keeps us upright. It’s a pot of soup, your favorite old sweater, a familiar face in a crowded room, a child’s hand in yours. Love is quiet. Love is loud. Love is precious. Love is delight. Love is hope.
“Love doesn’t just sit there, like a stone; it has to be made, like bread, remade all the times, made new.” ~Ursula K. LeGuin
Love is not static. It is an action, an ongoing mission. It requires intention and attention. Love is a super power used for good. So, be the messenger today and beyond. Be a warrior, my loves. Be gentle and strong, peaceful and fierce, kindhearted and intrepid. Be love. Be you, my dears, and know your hearts are magic.
We love because it's the only true adventure. ~ Nikki Giovanni
Happy Valentine’s Day.
I love you and your ginormous, gorgeous, magnificent hearts.
Love, Christie
If you’d like to share my post with your dear hearts, I’d be humbled and grateful.
This is lovely. I received a "Happy Valentine's Day" text today from a good friend with whom I don't communicate frequently, and it meant a lot to me. I mean to pay it forward.
A wonderful and much needed message in these times. Thank you.
